(BELLEVILLE, Ill., March 1)—The McKendree University women's tennis team improved to 1-1 on the season last Friday with a 6-3 win over the University of Illinois at Springfield.
The Bearcats started the meet by sweeping doubles play with three 8-3 victories. In singles action, freshman Adriana Gonzalez (Lima, Peru/San Agustin) (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) defeated Thiyumi Abeysinghe at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Giuliana Gonzalez (Lima, Peru/San Agustin) (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) defeated Priyanka Deo at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. McKendree earned its last victory of the meet at No. 3 singles by Nathalia Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Bahiense) (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Bahiense) over Jane Brown, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
McKendree returns to the court February 27th at Kingspoint in Belleville against Missouri Baptist University.
