(LEBANON, Ill., April 14)—The McKendree University men's golf team captured first place in the Benedictine Bulldog Classic on Monday. The 36-hole event was held at Panther Creek Golf Club in Springfield, Ill., and was hosted by Benedictine University-Springfield College.
The Bearcats' A squad was two strokes behind entering the final round, but blistered the course for a team score of 294 over the final 18 holes to hold off Missouri Baptist University by two strokes. McKendree finished with a 36-hole score of 589.
Individually, Justin Mueller (Belleville, Ill./Mascoutah) finished in a tie for second place. Mueller posted a score of 146, which included a 72 in the first round.
McKendree will now have two weeks to prepare for the American Midwest Conference/A.I.I. Unaffiliated Tournament, which will be held April 28-May 1 in Sioux City, Iowa. That tournament will serve as the qualifier for the NAIA National Championship, which is set for May 18-21 in Silvis, Ill.
