(LEBANON, Ill., April 15)—The McKendree University men's tennis team came from behind in its match-up with Lindenwood University on Thursday at Kings Point Tennis Club in Belleville, winning 5-4. The Bearcats -- ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA poll -- trailed 4-1 before taking the final four singles contests to post the come-from-behind win.
McKendree began its comeback march at No. 2 singles, where freshman Barnabas Toth (Cegleo, Hungary/Kossuth Lajos) (Budapest, Hungary) notched a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory. Playing at No. 3 singles, senior Danny Gonzalez (Lima, Peru) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win. A 6-4, 6-7 6-4 triumph by sophomore Davi Venditto (Jundiai, Brazil/Divino Salvador) (Jundiai, Brazil) evened the match, and freshman Fabio Tsuchiya (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ateneu) (Sao Paulo, Brazil) capped off the comeback with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 decision at No. 5 singles.
Thursday's win pushes the Bearcats' record to 16-2 on the year. McKendree will be in Springfield, Ill., on Friday for a contest against the University of Illinois at Springfield.
