McKENDREE SOFTBALL TEAM EDGES No. 20 OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY 3-2

Ostertag had two hits in the win on Friday

(LEBANON, Ill., April 23) – The McKendree University softball team upset No. 20 Olivet Nazarene University, 3-2, on Friday in the first game of the McKendree Softball Invitational.

McKendree, now 31-16 overall, will play Robert Morris University April 24 at 11 a.m., and then will play Culver-Stockton College at 5 p.m.

All the scoring for both teams came in the fifth inning of the contest, with the Tigers taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the frame. McKendree bounced back in the bottom of the inning and cut the deficit in half on a double off the top of the wall by senior outfielder Nicole Ostertag (O'Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell HS) (O'Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) that scored junior outfielder Jamie Corbier (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township HS) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon). Ostertag scored on an error by the right fielder to tie the game and a single by senior catcher Angie Maue (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin HS) (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) scored senior second baseman Natalee Rujawitz (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon HS) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) gave McKendree the 3-2 lead and the win.

Senior pitcher Katie Ward (White Hall, Ill./North Greene HS) (White Hall, Ill./North Greene) improved to 16-8 overall and had six strikeouts in the win. Ostertag led the Bearcats with two hits, including a double, one run scored and one RBI.
