(LEBANON, Ill., April 26)—The McKendree University men's tennis team posted its 20th victory of the season with a 5-0 shutout of Missouri Baptist University Friday in the quarterfinal round of the AMC/Unaffiliated Tournament. The eight-team event is being staged in Marshall, Mo.
The Bearcats won all three singles matches and received victories in singles play by sophomore Paulo Goncalves (Betim, Brazil/Colegio Pitagoras) (Betim, Brazil) and senior Danny Gonzalez (Lima, Peru) to advance to the semifinal round against Lindenwood University. McKendree, the No. 19-ranked team in NAIA men's tennis, improved to 20-3 overall.
McKendree was leading Lindenwood 2-1 on Saturday before weather postponed the remainder of the match. The contest between the Bearcats and Lions will resume on Wednesday in St. Louis, with the winner advancing to the championship contest Saturday in Marshall, Mo., against Graceland University.
The winner of the AMC/Unaffiliated Tournament will earn an automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship May 18-22 in Mobile, Ala.
