(CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, January 8)- The No. 2 McKendree University wrestling team earned its second win of the day on Saturday at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals with a 25-15 win over No. 8 Dickinson State University (N.D.) in the second round of the consolation bracket.

The No. 2 Bearcats will face No. 3 Grand View University in the consolation semifinals at 9 a.m. on Sunday. A win will place them in the fifth place match at 1 p.m., while a loss would drop them into the seventh place match, also at 1 p.m.

McKendree shot out to a 13-0 lead after a decision win by sophomore Tyler Orr (Mattoon, Ill., Mattoon) at 125 pounds, was followed by back-to-back tech falls by junior's Rashad Riley (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Conant) and Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Mascoutah) at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively. Dickinson State cut the deficit to 13-9 after a decision victory at 149 pounds and a forfeit win at 157 pounds, but an upset decision win by sophomore Isaiah Gonzalez (Montgomery, Ill., Montini Catholic) at 165 pounds over No. 8 Nick Zumwalt stopped the rally and gave the Bearcats a 16-9 advantage. A decision loss at 174 pounds cut the McKendree lead down to four points, but a major decision win by senior Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) at 184 pounds and a tech fall victory by senior Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill., O'Fallon) at 197 pounds put things out of reach for DSU. A decision loss at heavyweight was all for naught, as the Bearcats advanced with the 25-15 win.
