Dylan Mueth (New Baden, IL/Belleville East) each scored three goals to lead the McKendree University hockey team to a convincing 10-1 victory Saturday afternoon at home against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Silver).
Mueth (New Baden, Ill./Belleville East) also had an assist in the contest as the Bearcats bounced back from a tough 4-3 loss to the Cougars Friday night. McKendree is now 4-7-1 on the year and will continue its six-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 4 with a contest against the University of Nebraska. Face-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
Graduate defenseman Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) added a goal and two assists, while senior center
J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) chipped in with three assists in the rout for McKendree.
Sophomore center/wing
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) (Mulvane, Kan./Mulvane) started the scoring for McKendree midway through the first period. Mueth netted his first goal of the night three minutes later before Rolls scored twice within a two-minute span to stretch the Bearcats' lead to 4-0. Rolla finished off his hat trick with just over three minutes left in the second period. Junior defenseman
Matthew Seelbach (Brentwood, MO/John Burroughs) (Brentwood, Mo./John Burroughs) capped the second-period scoring with an unassisted goal to give McKendree a 9-0 advantage. Mueth's final goal of the day came with 13:38 remaining to push the Bearcats in front by double-digits.
Graduate goaltender
Dustin Schildknecht (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) lost his bid for a shutout with just over a minute to play. However, Schildknecht registered 27 saves to pick up the victory between the pipes for McKendree.
