(AMES, Iowa, Oct. 1)—The McKendree University overcame two deficits in its game Saturday with Iowa State University, but the Bearcats could not hold off the Cyclones as the teams played to a 6-6 tie in Ames, Iowa.
Six different players scored in the contest for McKendree, which now has a season record of 1-1-1. The Bearcats will be in Peoria, Ill., on Friday to take on Robert Morris University-Peoria. Face-off is set for 8:15 p.m.
McKendree and Iowa State were tied 2-2 heading into the third period, but a goal in the first minute of the period gave the Cyclones a 3-2 advantage. Sophomore center/wing
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) (Mulvane, Kan./Mulvane) with just under 14 minutes to play knotted the score once again at 3-3 before Iowa State tallied twice to regain a 5-3 lead.
The Bearcats then ripped off three consecutive goals to build a 6-5 lead. First, junior wing
Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) scored at the 11:22 mark, and just 14 seconds later senior center
J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) brought McKendree even at 5-5. Sophomore center/wing
Dylan Mueth (New Baden, IL/Belleville East) (New Baden, Ill./Belleville East) put the Bearcats in front 6-5 off a pass from sophomore defenseman
Michael Lampe (Arnold, MO/Fox) (Arnold, Mo./Fox) with 3:50 left in regulation.
However, Iowa State tied the game one final time on a goal in the closing minutes, and neither team could find the back of the net in the overtime period.
