(LEBANON, Ill., March 11)—The McKendree University hockey team saw its 2010-11 season come to an end Friday with a 5-1 loss to Davenport University in the Bearcats' final pool play game at the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 National Championship in Holland, Mich.
The Bearcats wrapped up the season with an overall record of 17-9-1. McKendree advanced to the ACHA Division 3 National Championship in its first attempt, winning two regional games in February to qualify for the 16-team national tournament field. The Bearcats were winless in all three of their pool play games at The Edge Ice Arena.
Against Davenport, McKendree found itself trailing 3-0 before tallying its only goal of the contest. Freshman wing Ben O'Neil (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) scored with 3:04 remaining in the second period with an assist from freshman center Ryan Newton (Highland, Ill./) (Highland, Ill.). The Panthers were able to put the game away in the third period with two goals to close out the scoring.
Senior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) stopped 36 shots in goal for McKendree.
