(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 27)—The McKendree University hockey team rolled to its fourth consecutive victory with an 11-4 win Friday at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
Junior wing
Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) registered four goals along with two assists, while sophomore center/wing
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) (Mulvane, Kan./Mulvane) added three goals and two assists as the Bearcats matched a season-high in goals scored in the win over the Bears. McKendree moved to 11-9-1 on the year and will face Missouri State again Saturday afternoon in the final game of a two-game weekend series.
Sophomore wing
Brett Denap (Granite City, IL/Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and sophomore center/wing
Dylan Mueth (New Baden, IL/Belleville East) (New Baden, Ill./Belleville East) each chipped in with two goals as McKendree hit the 11-goal mark for the third time in 2011-12. The Bearcats also scored 11 goals in wins over Purdue University on Oct. 21 and Western Illinois University on Nov. 11.
Missouri State held a 2-1 lead until the later stages of the first period, when Galvan netted his first goal of the contest with 2:44 left in the stanza to knot the score at 2-2. Denap scored both of his goals in the first six minutes of the second period to put the Bearcats in front for good at 4-2. After the Bears pulled back within a goal, Rolla sandwiched a pair of goals around another score from Galvan to extend the McKendree lead to 7-3.
Mueth closed out the second-period scoring with 1:47 remaining in the period, then scored 79 seconds into the third period to build the Bearcats' lead to 9-3. Galvan completed his hat trick midway through the period before Rolla finished off his four-goal night with 1:55 to play.
Senior center
J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) handed out five assists in the victory for McKendree. Graduate defenseman Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) had three assists, while senior wing
Kyle Clark (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) also recorded a pair of assists for the Bearcats.
Junior
Nathan Campo (Westmont, IL/Downers Grove South) (Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove South) stopped 39 shots to pick up the victory in goal for McKendree.
