Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) scored the game-winning goal with just 55 seconds remaining in overtime to push the McKendree University hockey team past Missouri State University on Saturday, 6-5.
The game-winning tally capped an impressive weekend for Rolla, as he recorded his second consecutive four-goal outing against the host Bears. Rolla had four goals and two assists in the Bearcats' 11-4 triumph on Friday night. With his weekend outburst, Rolla stretched his team-high goals total to 42. McKendree won its fifth straight game on Saturday to improve to 12-9-1 on the year.
McKendree trailed 3-0 early in the second period before Rolla scored twice just 30 seconds apart to bring the Bearcats within 3-2. Sophomore center/wing
Dylan Mueth (New Baden, IL/Belleville East) (New Baden, Ill./Belleville East) tied the game midway through the stanza with a power-play goal.
Missouri State regained a 4-3 lead before senior wing
Kyle Clark (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) helped McKendree pull even once again at 4-4 with 6:38 left in the second period. The Bears surged back in front early in the third period before Rolla's third goal of the contest with 4:28 remaining in regulation forced the overtime period.
Junior
Nathan Campo (Westmont, IL/Downers Grove South) (Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove South) registered his fifth consecutive win in goal for McKendree. Campo had 31 saves between the pipes and stopped all six Missouri State shots in overtime.
