(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 21)--The McKendree University hockey team was defeated Saturday evening at home by Iowa State University, 7-2. The game was played at the East Alton Ice Arena.
The Bearcats grabbed an early 1-0 lead, but the visiting Cyclones answered with five unanswered goals to take the lead for good. McKendree slips to 1-3 overall and will host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Silver) Friday and Saturday in East Alton. Game times are to be determined.
Junior center/wing
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) staked McKendree to a 1-0 lead with a tally just over three minutes into play. Galvan's goal was assisted by sophomore defenseman
Brendan Whitt (Granite City, IL/Granite City). Iowa State netted the tying goal two minutes later, then added a pair of tallies in the later stages of the first period to grab a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. After a scoreless second period, Iowa State added two more goals in the firswt three minutes of the third period to extend its lead to 5-1.
Senior wing
Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) brought McKendree within 5-2 with his second goal of the weekend, with the assist going to senior center
J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West). But Iowa State sealed the victory with two more goals in the closing minutes.
Senior
Nathan Campo (Westmont, IL/Downers Grove South) stopped 50 shots in goal for McKendree.
