(LEBANON, Ill., February 7)- The McKendree University wrestling team edged NCAA Division II No. 17 Maryville University, 24-23, on Tuesday night at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
The Bearcats improved to 3-4 overall and will travel to Marshall, Mo., on Wednesday, February 8th for a dual match against Missouri Valley College at 7 p.m.
Following forfeits in the first three matches of the night, the visiting Saints held a 12-6 lead and extended it to 20-6 after a win by tech fall at 149 pounds and a 4-3 decision win at 157 pounds. McKendree cut its deficit to 20-18 following forfeit wins at 165 and 174 pounds, only to lose a decision at 184 pounds to trail 23-18 with two matches remaining.

Kyle Reid (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) earned a hard-fought decision win, 2-1, in overtime over NCAA II No. 6 Matt Baker at 197 pounds, and redshirt freshman
Ross Janney (Daleville, Ind./Yorktown) narrowly edged Morgan Denson by decision at heavyweight, 4-3, to give the Bearcats the 24-23 victory.
