McKendree Hockey Team Falls 6-5 in Overtime at Iowa State

Jacob Schlote had a goal and three assists against Iowa State
(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 13)—The McKendree University hockey team dropped a 6-5 overtime decision Friday night at Iowa State University.

The Bearcats held a 5-3 lead midway through the third period but could not hold off the hard-charging comeback of the host Cyclones. Iowa State netted the game-winner with just 56 seconds left in the extra period. McKendree is now 3-4 on the season.

Iowa State led 2-0 in the first period when the Bearcats stormed back to tie the contest. Matt Seelbach put McKendree on the scoreboard off a pass from Evan Franklin (Alton, IL/Alton). Senior wing Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) recorded the equalizer for the Bearcats, with the assist credited to Jacob Schlote (House Springs, MO/Hillsboro).

After the Cyclones grabbed a 3-2 lead in the second period, McKendree tied the game once more thanks to a power-play goal from Schlote. The 3-3 score stood until the early stages of the third period, when Rolla found the back of the net for a power-play goal to push the Bearcats in front for the first time in the contest. Franklin gave McKendree a two-goal advantage at 5-3 with the team's third straight power-play tally. Schlote and junior center Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) picked up the assists on Schlote's goal.

But Iowa State tied it to force overtime and then sent the home crowd into a frenzy with the game-winner.

Schlote finished the night with a goal and three assists for McKendree.
