(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Feb. 13)- The McKendree University wrestling team lost two of its first three matches by pinfall on Wednesday and couldn't recover to fall in a dual match at Maryville University 25-13.

The Bearcats fall to 4-8 overall and will host Truman State University on Friday, Feb. 15 for its final dual match of the season at 7 p.m.

Trailing 6-0 after the first match of the night at 125 pounds, junior Brenden Murphy (Palos Park, Ill./Marian Catholic) cut McKendree's deficit to 6-4 with a 9-1 major decision win over Keygan Foster at 133 pounds.

The Saints won the next three matches to jump out to a 19-4 lead at the intermission, but sophomore Nick Haferkamp (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) held Christian Loges scoreless in a 4-0 decision win at 165 pounds to bring the Bearcats within 19-7.

A narrow decision win by Maryville at 174 pounds pushed its lead out to 22-7, but a 3-2 decision win by sophomore Luis Alba (Kissimmee, Fla./Cypress Creek) at 184 pounds made the score 22-10 with two matches to go.

Sophomore Julian Smith (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) was edged by NCAA Division II No. 2 Matt Baker at 197 pounds, 3-2, to make the score 25-10, but sophomore Ross Janney (Daleville, Ind./Yorktown) closed out the night with a 4-2 decision victory over Zack Wilcox at heavyweight, ending the dual with a 25-13 loss.
