(SOMERS, Wis., Jan. 18)- The No. 15 McKendree University wrestling team posted a 3-1 record on Saturday while competing at the Ranger Duals hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Bearcats are now 8-2 overall and will travel to St. Louis, Mo., on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a dual match at Missouri Baptist University at 7 p.m.

In its opening match of the day, McKendree fell behind, 4-0, after dropping the first match but rattled off six-straight wins to jump out in front 22-4. In a match of two top five wrestlers in NCAA II, No. 5 Julian Smith (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) upset No. 4 Jayd Docken in a 3-2 decision at 197 pounds and junior Ross Janney (Daleville, Ind./Yorktown) followed with a 7-3 decision at heavyweight to earn the 28-8 win.

In their second match of the day, the Bearcats won their first four matches against University of Findlay and won four of the final six matches to cruise to a 33-9 win. McKendree picked up bonus points in four of its matches in the dual.

McKendree lost its first four matches and couldn't catch back up in a 25-6 loss to No. 3 Saint Cloud State University in a matchup of two top 15 NCAA II programs. Junior Josh Ballard (Troy, Ill./Triad), ranked No. 7 at 157 pounds, junior John Vogt (Festus, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) and Smith all earned wins in the dual at 157 pounds, 184 pounds, and 197 pounds, respectively.

The Bearcats won nine matches in a 28-8 win in their final dual of the day over the host University of Wisconsin-Parkside. McKendree picked up seven wins by decision, along with two pins, in the victory. Graduate student Kyle WIlliams and junior Luis Alba (Kissimmee, Fla./Cypress Creek) each had wins by pinfall in the dual at 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.
