(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 18)—For the second time in as many days, the McKendree University hockey team saw a third-period lead slip away at Missouri State University in a 6-5 loss to the Ice Bears at Mediacom Ice Rink in Springfield, Mo.
The Bearcats led 5-3 with 17 minutes to play, but the host Ice Bears received a hat trick from Michael Humme in the final 10:25 of play to rally for the victory. McKendree slips to 4-5-1 overall and will return to action Friday night in Dubuque, Iowa, for a game against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Face-off is set for 9 p.m.
McKendree netted the lone first-period goal when senior forward
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) scored off a pass from senior forward
Elliot Emann (Washington, Mo./Washington) at the 13:42 mark. Freshman forward
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) scored the first of his two goals just 1:17 into the second period to stretch the Bearcats' lead to 2-0 before the Ice Bears got on the board moments later to cut the deficit to 2-1. Sizer then tallied a power-play goal midway through the period to help McKendree regain a two-goal advantage.
Missouri State answered moments later to pull back within a goal at 3-2. With just 1:50 left in the second period, senior forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) scored a shorthanded, unassisted goal to push the Bearcats' lead back to a pair of goals. However, the Ice Bears tallied in the final minute of the stanza to rally within 4-3.
With 17 minutes to play, freshman forward
Jacob Young (Arnold, MO/Fox) scored off a pass from Mueth to give McKendree a 5-3 advantage. From that point, Humme took over, scoring twice midway through the period to tie the game at 5-5, then netting the game-winner with exactly one minute to play.

Chris Stier (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) picked up the loss in goal for McKendree. Stier had 26 saves in the contest.
