(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 22)—The McKendree University hockey team dropped a 5-4 overtime decision Friday night to visiting Iowa State University at the East Alton Ice Arena.
The Bearcats now hold a 7-8-2 record following Friday's contest. McKendree and Iowa State will wrap up their weekend series Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. face-off in East Alton.
Freshman forward
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) scored a pair of goals for McKendree, while senior forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) and freshman forward
Austin Graf (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) netted the other two tallies for the Bearcats. Freshman forward
Jacob Young (Arnold, MO/Fox) handed out three assists on the night while sophomore defenseman added two assists in the contest for McKendree.
After Iowa State took a 1-0 lead in the first period, Sizer scored his first goal of the game at the 10:50 mark with assists going to Young and Rogers. Just over five minutes later, Mueth gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead as Young and Rogers again combined on the assists. The Cyclones answered with a pair of tallies late in the first period to grab a 3-2 advantage heading into the intermission.
Sizer knotted the score at 3-3 with 7:34 remaining in the second period thanks to passes from Young and senior defenseman
Brendan Whitt (Granite City, IL/Granite City). With just over three minutes left in the period, Graf pushed the Bearcats back in front at 4-3 with an assist from freshman forward Jason Beilke.
Iowa State registered the only goal of the third period to force overtime. The Cyclones then scored in the extra session to collect the win.
Freshman
Trevor Klostermann (Highland, IL/Highland) stopped 26 shots in goal for McKendree. The Bearcats held a 35-30 edge in shots on goal against Iowa State.
