(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 24)—For the second time in less than 24 hours, the McKendree University hockey team was defeated in overtime by Iowa State University. The Bearcats were nipped in a 2-1 decision Saturday afternoon at the East Alton Ice Arena.
McKendree is now 7-8-3 overall on the season. The Bearcats will have a week off before heading north Dec. 5-6 to face Robert Morris University-Peoria.
Saturday's contest featured a scoreless first period. McKendree broke through in the early stages of the second period when senior forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) scored on the power-play, with assists going to freshman forward
Jacob Young (Arnold, MO/Fox) and sophomore defenseman
Evan Franklin (Alton, IL/Alton). The score stood until the 2:08 mark of the second, when Iowa State netted its own power-play goal to knot the contest at 1-1.
A scoreless third period ensured a second straight overtime game between the Bearcats and Cyclones. Iowa State netted the game-winner with just 1:29 left in the extra period to complete the weekend sweep. The Cyclones won Friday night's tilt by a 5-4 tally.
Freshman
Trevor Klostermann (Highland, IL/Highland) was sharp in goal again for McKendree as he picked up 34 saves in taking the hard-luck loss for the Bearcats. McKendree had 35 shots against Iowa State in Saturday's game.
