(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 3)—The McKendree University hockey team was edged by Bradley University on Saturday afternoon in Peoria, Ill., 4-3.
The Bearcats tried to rally from a two-goal deficit in the closing minutes, but could not net the equalizer in posting a weekend split against the Braves. McKendree slips to 5-8-1 overall and will play its next four games at home, beginning with a contest Friday night against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Face-off is set for 10:45 p.m. at the East Alton Ice Arena.
Bradley scored the lone first-period goal before the Bearcats knotted the contest early in the second period. Senior defenseman
Brendan Whitt (Granite City, IL/Granite City) helped McKendree pull even at 1-1 with his goal off assists from freshman defenseman
Steve Csanyi (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Nicholson) and freshman forward
Jacob Young (Arnold, MO/Fox). The deadlock stood until the third period when the host Braves regained a 2-1 advantage.
Senior forward
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) tied the game once again at 2-2 as Csanyi and Young recorded their second assists of the contest. Bradley then scored consecutive goals, the second coming with 12:32 on the clock, to build their largest lead of the game at 4-2.
With just 1:28 remaining, freshman forward
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) found the back of the net as Young and senior forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) picked up the assists, cutting the Bearcats' deficit to 4-3. McKendree was not able to pick up the game-tying goal in the closing seconds as the Braves held on to register the win.
Freshman
Trevor Klostermann (Highland, IL/Highland) was solid in net for McKendree in picking up the loss.
