(SOMERS, Wis., Jan. 17)- The No. 7 McKendree University wrestling team posted a 2-1 record on Saturday at the Ranger Duals hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Bearcats are now 9-4 overall and will host University of Central Missouri for a dual match on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

McKendree won eight-straight matches in its first dual of the day to roll to a 30-9 win over Tiffin University. Sophomore Darren Wynn (Champaign, Ill., Centennial) highlighted the dual with a 15-8 decision win over NCAA DII No. 7 Michael Screptock at 141 pounds. Sophomore Ryan Strope (Westphalia, Mo., Fatima) earned bonus points for the Bearcats at 133 pounds after pinning Nicholas Pope in 2:34.

McKendree trailed University of Findlay 12-10, with three matches to go, but earned wins in all three to defeat the Oilers 23-12. Facing a two-point deficit, senior John Vogt (Festus, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) pinned Alec Bissel in 4:09 at 174 pounds to put the Bearcats back in front, 16-12, and senior Julian Smith (Florissant, Mo., Hazelwood Central) followed with a 10-2 major decision over Gerald Beck at 197 to seal the win. Junior Coltyn Pease (Pittsfield, Ill., Pittsfield) wrapped up the dual with a 1-0 victory over Luke Fleming at heavyweight to finish it out 23-12.

McKendree faced a deficit entering its final three matches again in its final match of the day against No. 4 Saint Cloud State University, but was unable to get the points it needed to fall 20-12. Wynn put the Bearcats on the board with a 12-6 decision at 141 pounds over Zach Stewart to make the score 8-3, but McKendree lost four-straight matches to fall behind 20-3. The Bearcats won its last three matches, but were unable to score bonus points in those wins to lose 20-12.
