(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 2)—The McKendree University hockey team had its three-game win streak snapped on Thursday evening with a 7-4 home loss against the SIUE D2 program.
Forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) scored twice and added an assist to lead the way for the Bearcats, who slip to 3-2 on the season. McKendree will look to bounce back in a weekend series with the SIUE D3 squad. The teams will play Friday at 9:45 p.m. before a Saturday face-off at 4 p.m.
Against the SIUE D2 team, McKendree jumped out to an early 1-0 lead Mueth netted his first goal of the evening. Sophomore forwards
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) and
Billy Lamb (St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's) assisted on Mueth's goal. SIUE responded with three goals later in the opening period to take a 3-1 advantage at the first intermission. Mueth scored again less than 90 seconds into the second period off a pass from freshman forward
Sasha-Mitchell Perron (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Bellingham Blazers (NPHL)) to trim the Bearcats' deficit to 3-2.
Moments later, Perron tied the contest at 3-3 with Mueth and freshman forward Lazar Lesaric collecting the assists. The Cougars then took the lead for good by reeling off four unanswered goals to grab a 7-3 lead after two periods of play.
Sophomore defenseman
Josh Donovan (Ojai, CA/Cornerstone Academy) tallied the only goal of the third period as he scored on the power-play for McKendree. Lasaric and freshman defenseman
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) were credited with the assists.
Freshman
Jared Bradley (St. Peters, MO/St. Louis Frontenacs Juniors (MNJHL)) took the loss in goal for McKendree. Bradley notched 42 saves on the evening as SIUE held a 49-28 edge in shots on goal.
