(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 21)—The McKendree University hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision Friday night in the first of a two-game series on the road at Iowa State University.
The Bearcats and Cyclones were tied at 2-2 midway through the contest, but the hosts netted the next two goals to take the lead for good. McKendree slips to 9-8 overall and will face Iowa State again Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
Both goals in the first period were scored by Iowa State before the Bearcats came roaring back to knot the contest. Forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) got McKendree into the scoring column at the 11:43 mark of the stanza, with assists going to sophomore forwards
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) and
Billy Lamb (St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's). Exactly three minutes later, freshman forward
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) brought McKendree even thanks to an unassisted goal.
With 4:50 left in the second period, Iowa State scored to take a 3-2 advantage, then added another tally in the early stages of the third period to stretch its lead to 4-2. Freshman forward
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/Sesta) shaved the Bearcats' deficit to one goal on an unassisted goal with just over six minutes to play. However, McKendree could never record the equalizer as the Cyclones escaped with the win.
