(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 26)--The McKendree University hockey team registered a 3-0 shutout victory Friday night in the Bearcats' 2015-16 home opener against Indiana University. The contest was played at the East Alton Ice Arena.
McKendree posted a goal in each period and put forth a solid defensive effort to notch its second consecutive win. The Bearcats are now 2-1 and will host the Hoosiers Saturday at 4 p.m. to wrap up the two-game weekend series between the two programs.
Freshman forward
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/Sesta) netted the first two goals of his McKendree career, while freshman
Jared Bradley (St. Peters, MO/St. Louis Frontenacs Juniors (MNJHL)) stopped all 22 shots he faced to earn his first collegiate shutout. Sophomore forward
Ryan Sizer (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Moira Secondary School) also tallied a goal for McKendree in the effort.
The contest was scoreless until just under five minutes remained in the opening period. Sizer scored off a pass from senior forward
Dylan Mueth (Lebanon, IL/Wesclin ) to give McKendree the only score they would need on the evening. Lestaric scored his first goal of the contest midway through the second period before sealing the win on a goal with 6:15 to play.
