(PEORIA, Ill., Nov. 4) – The McKendree University men's D2 ice hockey team captures a win on the road against Bradley University improving their overall record to 8-3 while Bradley drops to 1-4 against ACHA D2 teams and 8-5 overall.
The Bearcats controlled the game 4-1 with Bradley's lone goal coming in the fifteenth minute of the third period. Freshman forward Dominc Naas opened the scoring for the Bearcats in the final three minutes of the first period with an assist from sophomore forward Kristjan Toivola (Bellingham, WA/Bellingham Blazers (NPHL)) to give McKendree a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the game.
Freshman forward Levi Armstrong (Urbana, IL/Urbana HS) found the back of the net on an unassisted effort at the start of the second period. Kristjan Toivola (Bellingham, WA/Bellingham Blazers (NPHL)) quickly followed netting a goal with an assist from Naas. The Bearcats continued the scoring with their final goal coming on the power play from sophomore forward Blair Davies (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Christ the King). Credited on the assists on Davies goal were Toivola and freshman defenseman Alec Nichols (Cedar Rapids, IA/George Washington HS).
Head coach Garry Henson named Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Saint Theresa’s High School), Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada), and Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/Sesta) players of the game. Best 27 of 28 shots on goal for a save percentage of 0.964.
