(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill, Feb. 3)- The No. 20 McKendree University wrestling team lost a dual match to No. 4 Maryville University on Wednesday, 26-15, at the Jon Davis Wrestling Center in Edwardsville, Ill.

The Bearcats will return to the mat on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Greyhound Open hosted by University of Indianapolis.

McKendree opened the dual with a 5-4 decision win by sophomore Mech Spraggins Jr. (Belleville, Ill., Belleville West High School) at 149 pounds, but would lose the next tow matches by decision to trail 6-3. Sophomore J.J. Filipek (Warrenton, Mo., Warrenton) earned a win by medical forfeit at 174 pounds to put the Bearcats back in the lead, 9-6, but Maryville rattled off five-straight wins to take a 26-9 lead. Sophomore Darren Wynn (Champaign, Ill., Centennial) ended the dual by pinning Keygan Foster in 6:02 at 141 pounds to bring the final score to 26-15.
