(St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 18) – The McKendree University men's wrestle team fell on criteria 19-18 to the No. 3 team in the nation in Maryville University this evening.
McKendree was able to overcome an early 9-0 deficit with a pin fall victory from Ryan Strope (Westphalia, Mo./Fatima) (157) and a tech fall victory from Austin Geerlings (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) (165) to take a 11-9 lead at the mid-point.
Nick Foster (Belleville, IL) (174) would claim a 2-0 decision victory over Travis Lang to put the Bearcats ahead 14-9.
Fifth-ranked Zeb Wahle got the Saints back in the dual posting a 6-2 decision over Qian'te Wagner (Alton, Ill./Alton) (184) to move the score to 14-12. Luke Diener (Saint Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central) (194) fell by decision 8-2 to Ethan Sherertz giving Maryville the lead 15-14.
Coltyn Pease (Pittsfield, Ill./Pittsfield) (285) scored a major decision victory 13-3 over fourth-ranked Donnell Walker to put the score at 18-15 heading into the final match.
In the 125-pound match Jaret Singh won a 4-0 decision over Jarrett Reisenbichler (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) to move the score to 18-18.
With Maryville holding the 6-4 advantage in individual matches they were awarded the tie-breaker.
The Bearcats are back in action on Tuesday, January 24 as they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
