(Kenosha, Wisc., Jan. 24) – The McKendree University men's wrestling team dropped a 21-15 dual against the third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers this evening.
The Bearcats fall to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) as they've dropped close duals to the nationally ranked Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside and the Maryville University Saints.
After dropping the first two matches of the dual, No. 3
Darren Wynn (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) would put the Bearcats on the score board collecting a 9-2 decision to move the score to 6-3.
Ruben Garcia (Selma, CA/Selma) would tie things up at 6-6 with his 6-1 decision in the 149 pound match-up.
At 157 pounds No. 3
Ryan Strope (Westphalia, Mo./Fatima) would square up against No. 9 Brett Scoles. In a battle of nationally ranked wrestlers, Strope would pull away with the 3-2 decision.
The Rangers would then go on a four-match win streak collecting three decisions and a medical forfeit.
Heading into the heavyweight match the Bearcats trailed 21-9. No. 3
Coltyn Pease (Pittsfield, Ill./Pittsfield) collected the only pin fall of the match as he glued Matt Halverson to the mat at 4:26.
The Bearcats are back in action on Friday, January 24 as they welcome Drury University to the Statham Center for a 7:00 p.m. dual.
