(IOWA CITY, Iowa., Oct. 20) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team took a 5-1 victory over the University of Iowa on Friday night at Coral Ridge Ice Arena.
The Bearcats improve to 6-3 overall on the season with Friday night's victory over the Hawkeyes. McKendree moves to 4-1 in Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) Gold division play.
The Bearcats grabbed an early lead scoring three goals out of the gate in the first period. Junior forward
Blair Davies (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Christ the King), sophomore forward
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL), and sophomore forward
Levi Armstrong (Urbana, IL/Peoria Mustangs NA3HL) all found the back of the net in the first period to give McKendree the 3-0 advantage at the end of the first period. Junior defenseman
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) fired his first of the season into the net in the second period to give the Bearcats a four goal lead. Davies extended the Bearcat's lead to five with his second goal of the game, to put McKendree up 5-0. The Hawkeyes were able to sneak one past junior goaltender
Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) in the third, in an otherwise perfect game for him.
The two teams play again on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. at Coral Ridge Ice Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
