(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 11) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team completed the sweep of Bradley University with a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
The Bearcats outscored the Braves 12-1 on the weekend, and improve to 14-3 overall on the season. McKendree improves to 11-1 in Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) Gold Division play.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first with a goal from junior defenseman
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) with junior forward
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) notching the assist. Bradley tied it up with 6:43 remaining in the first period, but just 21 seconds later sophomore defenseman
Alec Nichols (Cedar Rapids, IA/Northern Iowa Bulls NA3HL) received a pass from freshman defenseman Daniel Nordlander on the blueline. Nichols walked in and fired a shot that beat the Braves goaltender to give the Bearcats the 2-1 lead. McKendree held that lead through the close of the first period. McKendree scored the lone goal of the second period on an attempt by sophomore forward Tyler Wilson. Freshman forward Connor Brennan registered the assist on Wilson's goal. At the end of the second period, McKendree was ahead 3-1.
The third frame was all Bearcats, as they continued to hold the Braves off the scoreboard while netting three goals of their own. McKendree's first goal of the period came just 44 seconds into the period on a shot by sophomore forward
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL), with Wilson getting the assist. Senior forward Jason Beilke Jr. scored his second goal of the season to put the Bearcats up 5-1, with junior forward
Blair Davies (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Christ the King) and freshman forward Shayne Pluto getting the assists. Nichols capped off the scoring in the game with his second of the night. Brennan and Nordlander each recorded an assist on Nichols' goal. With the goal the Bearcats would take home the 6-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Senior goaltender
Trevor Klostermann (Highland, IL/Highland HS) got the nod to start in the cage for the Bearcats turning aside 25 of 26 shots on goal for a save percentage of 0.962. For McKendree players notched two points on the day. Nichols netted two goals, Wilson added one goal and one assist, and Brennan and Nordlander each had two assists in the contest.
