(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 17) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team is set for three road games this week. Wednesday night the Bearcats head to Wentzville, Mo. to face-off against Lindenwood University at 7 p.m. McKendree then hits the road to DeKalb, Ill. for two contests against Northern Illinois University. The Bearcats face the Huskies at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 3:30 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
The Bearcats are set to hit the ice for the first time since December 2, which turned out to be a forfeit win for McKendree. After 19 games this season, the Bearcats are currently riding an 11 game winning streak with an overall record of 16-3. McKendree is currently second in the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) with 32 points, but have three games in hand on first place Iowa State University with 36 points. The Bearcats still hold the No. 1 ranking in the Central Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).
Lindenwood currently holds the No. 6 spot in the Central Region of the ACHA. McKendree and Lindenwood are no strangers to each other with the teams already going head-to-head three times this season. The Bearcats hosted the Lions on September 29 & 30, earning 5-3 and 2-0 wins. The two teams played again on November 1 at Lindenwood, with McKendree coming away with the 5-2 victory. Wednesday night the Bearcats will look to sweep the regular season series against Lindenwood and extend their current winning streak to 12. Following Wednesday's matchup against Lindenwood, the Bearcats head to DeKalb, Ill. for MACHA contests against Northern Illinois University. The Huskies are 9-18 on the season and sit at No. 6 in the MACHA with 19 points in 28 games played.
Sophomore
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) leads McKendree in scoring this season with 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points in 19 games. Naas is just two points short of his freshman season total of 51 points in 24 games, with nine regular season games left this year. Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) has seen action in 14 contests this season, with an overall record of 10-3, while notching two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.43, and a save percentage of 0.927.
