(PEORIA, Ill., Nov. 17) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team collected its fourth consecutive sweep behind senior
Andrew Best's (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) shutout performance in the 6-0 win over Bradley University.
The Bearcats move to 13-3 overall and 12-0 in the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association.
Senior
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) got McKendree in front as he caught a pass from sophomore
Shayne Pluto (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Central Memorial High School) and buried it past the Brave goaltender. Late in the opening period, sophomore
Daniel Nordlander (Göteborg, Sweden/Wasaskolan Tingsryd) extended the lead with an assist from junior
Tyler Wilson (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada). One second before the buzzer, Pluto gave the Bearcats a three goal lead. Junior
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) was credited with the helper.
In the second period, senior
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) notched his first goal of the game with assists from Naas and Lestaric. McKendree carried a 4-0 lead into the final period.
Just over two minutes into the third period, Naas collected his third point of the game as he lit the lamp with help from Lestaric. Watt capped off the scoring with his second goal of the game as McKendree would go on to win 6-0.
Best recorded his first shutout of season in the win over Bradley.
"The defensive core was absolutely outstanding tonight," said McKendree head coach
Garry Henson.
