(ALBERT LEA, Minn., Nov. 16) – The McKendree University men's D1 hockey team registered a 4-1 victory over Waldorf University on Saturday night. Junior
Aleks Ivasenko (Riga, Latvia/Riga 1. Distance Education High School) scored two goals to lead McKendree. The Bearcats will look for a sweep tomorrow afternoon at 4:00pm.
The Bearcats move to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Midwest College Hockey (MCH) play.
After a scoreless opening period, the Bearcats struck first when junior
Aleks Ivasenko (Riga, Latvia/Riga 1. Distance Education High School) connected freshman
Reilly DeGray (Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada/Smith Falls District Collegiate Institute) for the game's first goal. Waldorf countered back to tie the game with one minute left to make the game 1-1 going into the final period.
Shortly into the third period, senior
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) scored the game-winning goal with help from juniors
Shayne Pluto (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Central Memorial High School) and
Daniel Nordlander (Göteborg, Sweden/Wasaskolan Tingsryd). The Bearcats scored two goals with two minutes left in the game. Sophomore
Cory Robinson (St. Charles, MO/) notched the third goal of the game with a pass from junior
Connor Brennan (Castle Rock, CO/Regis Jesuit High School). Ivanseko netted his second goal of the game with just over one minute remaining in the game.
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) was credited with an assist.
Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) made 25 saves in the victory.
