O'FALLON, Ill., Nov. 23) – The McKendree University men's D1 hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss at home to Midland University in Midwest College Hockey (MCH) play.
The Bearcats fall to 8-2 overall on the season and 6-2 in MCH play.
McKendree jumped on the board first with a goal from sophomore
Otasowie Omoregie (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/). Sophomore
Cory Robinson (St. Charles, MO/) sent a pass to an open Omoregie in front of the net, burying it past the Warrior goalie. Midland answered back less than a minute later to tie the game. With under two minutes remaining in the period, the Warriors took the lead and carried a 2-1 margin into the second period.
Four minutes into the middle period, junior
Daniel Nordlander (Göteborg, Sweden/Wasaskolan Tingsryd) cleaned up a loose puck to tie the game at two.
Ty Watt (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Rama Aces GMHL) and senior
Tyler Wilson (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada/) were credited with assists on the goal. The contest remained even for the rest of the period, with the two teams going into the third period even at two.
The Warriors scored the game winning goal with six minutes remaining in the period. Midland tacked on two empty net goals to capture a 5-2 victory over McKendree.
Sophomore goalie
Wes Werner (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada/Sandwich Secondary School) made 20/23 saves in the loss.
The Bearcats return to the ice next semester on Jan. 17-18 as they travel to Maryville University for two games.
