(FREMONT, Neb., Jan. 24) – The McKendree University men's D1 hockey team secured a 3-2 road win over Midland University on Friday night. Senior
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) scored two goals in the game, proving to be the difference.
The Bearcats advance to 11-2 overall and 9-2 in Midwest College Hockey (MCH) play on the season.
Naas put McKendree ahead early, scoring seven minutes into the opening period. Naas was set up by assists from juniors
Shayne Pluto (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Central Memorial High School) and
Jacob Scrum (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School). Midland tied the game late in the first period as the two teams headed into the first intermission at 1-1.
Just over a minute into the second period,
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) pushed the Bearcats back ahead with help from Naas, scoring a power-play goal. Five minutes later, Naas scored his second goal of the game with help from Lestaric.
The Warriors scored once in the final period but McKendree held strong, hanging on for the 3-2 win.
Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) stayed hot in the crease, stopping 37/39 shots, for a .948 save percentage.
McKendree will look for a road sweep tomorrow night at 7:00pm.
