No.2 Men’s Wrestling Prepares for 2020 GLVC Championships

(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 15) – The McKendree University No.2 men's wrestling prepares for the 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Wrestling Championship that is scheduled for Sunday, Feb.16, in St. Louis, MO.

The Bearcats, now 11-2 (3-0 in GLVC) are coming off a 55-0 shutout over Ouachita Baptist University in a dual Friday night. In addition to the recognition of their seven seniors, McKendree posted four pins, three technical falls and one major decision in their victory.

McKendree has won the GLVC Championship title for the past two seasons and are looking to continue for the third year in-a-row. In the GLVC Championships last season, they defeated Maryville (21-15), Truman State (53-0), Ouachita (42-7), Bellarmine (26-15), Drury (41-5) and University of Indianapolis (22-12). This season they are scheduled to dual against GLVC competitors Bellarmine and University of Indianapolis.

Bellarmine has an overall 5-5 record (2-2 in GLVC) and are on a two-game winning streak. The Knights had one wrestler place in the Patriot Open, one champion in the Mount Union Invitational, had two wrestlers place in the Findlay Open and had three wrestlers place in the Greyhound Open. They placed 23rd overall and one wrestler place in the top-8 of the Midwest Classic, and placed fifth overall and one champion in the Spartan Classic.

UIndy has an overall 9-2 record (2-2 in GLVC) and most recently had four wrestlers place in the top-8 of the Greyhound Open. They placed five wrestlers place in the Kaufman/ Brand/ Baylay Open, had four wrestlers place in the top-8 including one champion in the Findlay Open, and had two wrestlers place at Indianan Little State. As a team, they placed 17th overall in the Midwest Classic.

The Bearcats will hit the mat against Bellarmine at 9:00 A.M. and against University of Indianapolis at 1:00 P.M. on the campus of Maryville University.
