M1 Men's Hockey

D1 Hockey to Begin Last Home Stand Against Waldorf

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 20) – The McKendree University men's D1 hockey team will begin a four game home stand this weekend, starting with Waldorf University coming to the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. Friday's game is scheduled for 7:30pm with Saturday's slated for 7:00pm.
 
The Bearcats sit at 15-5 overall and 13-3 in Midwest College Hockey (MCH) action. McKendree recently clinched the MCH regular season title with last Saturday's win over Illinois State.
 
Senior Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) leads the Bearcat offense with 22 goals, 16 assists, and 38 total points. Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) guides the attack, dishing out a team-leading 25 assists. In 12 games, senior Tyler Wilson (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada/) has proven to be a difference maker with nine goals, 10 assists, and 19 points.
 
In the crease, Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) has a 5-2 record, 2.07 goals against average, and .927 save percentage. Sophomore Wes Werner (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada/Sandwich Secondary School) sports a 6-2 record, 3.04 goals against average, and .882 save percentage. Freshman Kayne Pasquet (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada/Peacock Collegiate) supports a 4-1 record, 3.34 goals against average, and .885 save percentage.
 
In McKendree's previous matchups with the Warriors, the Bearcats swept Waldorf with 4-1 and 8-2 victories back on Nov. 16-17.
 
About Waldorf
The Warriors hold an 8-14 record and 5-9 mark in MCH play. Leading the offense is Sean Mallonee with 20 goals, 12 assists, and 32 points on the season. Janeck Sperling follows close with 14 goals, 13 assists, and 27 points. Caden Tchop plays a big part in facilitating with 12 assists on the year.
 
In net, Jeff Veitch and Dom Lamanno are the primary netminders. Veitch has a 4-4 record, 3.86 goals against average, and .902 save percentage. Lamanno supports a 2-5 overall record, 3.77 goals against average, and .905 save percentage.
