(LEBANON, Ill., March 5) – The McKendree University men's D1 hockey team holds the top seed in the Midwest College Hockey (MCH) Tournament and will await their opponent after Friday's contest. The Bearcats will face the lowest seeded day one winner, playing at 5:00pm on Saturday at the Maryville University Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Mo.
The Bearcats closed out the regular season at 18-5-1 overall with a 16-3-1 mark in MCH action.
Offensively, senior
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/Casper Coyotes WSHL) paces the attack with 28 goals, 18 assists, and 46 points.
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/National Sports Academy USHS) plays a key role in facilitating the offense, dishing out a team-leading 29 assists. After returning midseason, senior
Tyler Wilson (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada/) totaled 13 goals, 15 assists, and 28 points in 16 games.
Between the pipes,
Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Cambridge Bears Junior A team) had a 7-2 record, 2.24 goals against average, and .916 save percentage in 11 games. Sophomore
Wes Werner (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada/Sandwich Secondary School) compiled a 7-2 record, 3.15 goals against average, and .874 save percentage.
The Bearcats will play either No. 4 Maryville, No. 5 Northern Illinois, or No. 6 Waldorf in the second round of the MCH Tournament.
Against those three opponents, McKendree went 11-1, dropping a single contest to Maryville on Oct. 30.
