(LEBANON, Ill. – April 23) – McKendree University senior Alwyn Mushonga (Mutare, Zimbabwe/Mutare Boys High School) was recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) as the Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. The Conference announced the honor Wednesday afternoon.

Mushonga has been part of the Bearcats for just two seasons. This most recent 2019-20 season, Mushonga posted an 11-5 record in singles and a 9-3 record in doubles. Mushonga took first place in Singles A group at the Quincy Invite on Sept. 22, 2019, where he went 3-0.

Last season's 2018-19 team was the first for Mushonga. He posted a 7-7 record in singles and a 6-8 record in doubles with partner Nicholas De Guzman (Courtice, ON/Holy Trinity). Mushonga's battle against University of Southern Indiana for the victory (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) was critical in the Bearcats' team win on April 5, 2019. The Bearcats defeated Rockhurst for the first time program history on Fe. 23, 2019, and Mushonga contributed to the victory with his individual victory (7-5. 4-6, 7-6) and doubles 6-3 victory.

This is Mushonga's first GLVC honor.
