DEKALB, Ill. - McKendree University men's DI hockey collected its first two wins of the season with a pair of road victories over the hosting-Huskies of Northern Illinois. McKendree beat Northern Illinois 2-1 and 4-2, marking the end to a five-game skid to open the season.
McKendree won a pair of matchups with the Huskies during a two-game road trip on October 29 and 30. The Bearcats were owners of a five-game losing streak prior to the two road wins but pulled out the victories behind impressive outings from multiple players. The Bearcats had two individuals who recorded multiple goals over the two contests.
Senior forward
Nikita Sokov led the Bearcats attack with three goals and one assist over the pair of games while junior forward
Cory Robinson scored the opening goal in both games for McKendree. Sokov, a native of Pervourlask Russia, fired the game-winner in overtime during the first contest while he assisted on the first goal, which was scored by Robinson. The senior forward also recorded the game-winner and final insurance score in the Saturday matchup with the Huskies. Robinson, a local product from St. Charles, Missouri, scored the inital goal in the first game between the Bearcats and Huskies, which broke the stalemate in the third period. The junior Robinson also added the goal in the Saturday contest to put the Bearcats on top, 1-0, in the second period.
The third and final goal-scorer for McKendree was center
Reilly DeGray, who put McKendree up 2-0 in the second weekend matchup during the second period of play.
The goal was tended to by Moose Jaw-native and junior
Kayne Pasquet for the full time this past weekend. Pasquet allowed the fewest goals this season in a two-game stint while also totaling 78 saves. The junior grabbed 37 saves in the Friday game while adding another 41 in the Saturday matchup to solidify the victories for McKendree.

McKendree men's DI hockey will be back on the ice for a pair of home matches on November 5 and 6 at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex against Waldorf. The game on Friday, November 5 will take place at 7:30 P.M. and the Saturday matchup will be at 12:30 P.M.
