Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated on Season, Posts Wins Over Oakland City and Kaskaskia

LEBANON, Ill. - The McKendree University men's tennis remained undefeated on the season on Saturday as they posted two wins at two different locations as the Bearcats opened the day with a 5-2 win over Oakland City at Triad High School in Troy, Ill., before posting a 7-0 exhibition win over Kaskaskia College at the St. Clair Tennis Center in O'Fallon, Ill. 

The Bearcats win over Oakland City improved McKendree to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 on the spring season. 

Against Oakland City, McKendree got things started by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The first win in doubles came at the No. 1 spot as junior Leonardo Frederico (Tujucas-Santa Cantrina, Brazil/UniCesumar) and graduate student Boriss Kamdem (Ghent, Beligium/Tulsa) won 6-4 over Teodor Ziatar and Andre Baltazar. 

The next win in doubles came at the No. 3 spot as junior Ryan Fung (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior) and sophomore Subash Paramasivan (Chennai, India/National Institute of Open Schooling) picked up a 6-4 win over Gustavo Marangoni and Kaleb Knepp. 

McKendree's No. 2 team of sophomore Nanase Ebisu (Osaka, Japan/Hawai'i Pacific) and junior Lorenzo del Biondo (Pescora, Italy/Abraham Baldwin) won 6-3 over Angel Guzman and Carlos Hernandez. 

After completing doubles action, the two teams turned their attention to singles play. 

In singles action, the Bearcats won four of the six matches to seal the 5-2 victory. 

Paramasivan got things started with a win at the No. 3 spot over Gomez as Paramasivan won 6-1, 6-1. 

Kamdem would give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead in the match following its 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot over Baltazar. 

Sophomore Julappagari Anurag Reddy (Dubai, UAE/CBSE School Nationals) gave the Bearcats a fourth win in singles as he defeated Marangoni, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). 

Del Biondo gave the Bearcats a 5-0 lead in the match following his win at the No. 6 spot over Knepp as del Biondo won, 6-1, 6-1. 

Oakland City's two wins in singles came at the No. 1 spot and No. 5 spots. At No. 1, Ziatar defeated Frederico in three sets as Ziatar won the first set, 6-4, before Frederico won 6-0 in the second set to even the match and force a third set. In the third and final set, Ziatar won 7-5, to pick up OCU's first point of the match. 

OCU's second win came at the No. 5 spot as Hernandez defeated Ebisu, 6-4, 6-4. 

Meanwhile, against Kaskaskia, the Bearcats won all seven matches and dropped a total of four games, with all of those coming in doubles. 

The Bearcats won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default and then junior Carlos Etty (Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands/Luzac College Eindhoven) and freshman David Leon Mantilla (Lima, Peru/Colegio Parroquial Santa Rosa de Lima) won 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. The final win came at the No. 2 spot as the Brunner brothers - Garrett and Griffin - won at No. 2 doubles spot 6-3 over Ethan Dobbs and Christian Church. 

In singles play, the Bearcats won all five of the matches that were played by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Bearcats will return to action on Monday, March 14 as the Bearcats face Cumberland University in a 9 a.m. match in Lebanon, Tenn.
