Women's Tennis Earns Home Shutout Win Over Missouri Baptist

LEBANON, Ill. – The McKendree women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win here Wednesday afternoon over Missouri Baptist at the tennis courts on the McKendree University campus.
 
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 4-2 on the season, while Missouri Baptist is 0-4 on the season.
 
The win was the third straight for the Bearcats on the season.
 
Wednesday's match began with doubles as the Bearcats swept all three doubles matches as they won at No. 3 by default and then posted wins of 6-0 at No. 1 doubles by junior Viola Cipriani (Arezzo, Italy/Liceo Classico Francesco Petrarca) and sophomore Camilla Fonseca (Rio de Janerio, Brazil/Colegio Saber) and 6-3 at No. 2 doubles by sophomores Emily Kettering (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community West) and Bailey Grigg (Marine, Ill./Triad).
 
Cipriani and Fonseca improved to 6-1 in doubles on the season, while Kettering and Grigg moved to 2-0 on the season in doubles.
 
After earning the doubles point, the two teams turned their attention to singles play as the Bearcats won all six of the singles matches, including winning at No. 6 by default and Grigg winning at the No. 5 spot 8-0 over Maddie Feick in a 8-point pro set.
 
McKendree would pick up its second point in singles at the No. 3 spot as sophomore Maria Vitoria Salomao (Minas Geralds, Brazil/Belo Horizonte) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Myia McAllister.
 
Kettering would then post a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot over Elle Panke to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead in the match.
 
Cipriani would run her record to 5-1 on the season in singles following her 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot over Nina Vasilijkovic.
 
Sophomore Rhyan Cook (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) would pick up the final singles win at the No. 2 spot as she defeated Laura Baracaldo, 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Bearcats will next be in action on Monday, March 14 as they begin their two-match Spring Break road trip with a 9 a.m. match in Lebanon, Tenn., against Cumberland University. The trip will conclude with a scrimmage match on Tuesday, March 15 against Austin Peay State at 1 p.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
