ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Looking to get their record back to .500 on the season, the Bearcats traveled north for a two game set against Waldorf (Iowa) University to close out the month of September. McKendree completed the sweep of the Warriors by the scores of 2-0 and 3-2.
Friday, September 29th
After a scoreless opening period, the Bearcats came out on fire. Trevor Roehrig scored his first of the year on the assists from Jonathan Davenport and Matias Alexandrov. The scoring would remain 1-0 until the 15:52 mark of the 2nd period when Davenport found of the back of the net on the power play for his first of the season. Joe McCormick and Connor Mullins assisted on the goal.
Junior goalie Chad Purdy recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 41 Warrior shots The Bearcats fired 31 shots of their own on net, while going 1 for 2 on the power play.
Saturday, September 30th
Looking for the weekend sweep, the Bearcats got in the scoring column first. Brad Richardson notched his 2nd of the season on an unassisted goal at the 15:08 mark. Rycol Davis scored his 3rd of the season at the 18:47 mark, assisted by Alex Kent to give McKendree the 2-0 lead. Waldorf got one back in the final minute of the period to cut the lead in half.
Five minutes into the 2nd period, Ben Anderson got his first of the season on the power play, with the assists from Alexandrov and McCormick. Waldorf scored a late goal in the final period to cap the scoring.
Purdy stopped 40 of 42 shots in the contest, while the power play went 1 for 3.
McKendree will return the ice when they cross the river to battle Maryville on October 26th at the Maryville University Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Mo.
