OZARK, Mo. - McKendree University beach volleyball completed its first ever tournament this past weekend hosted by Missouri State University. The first-year program faced some challenging opponents in the tournament, falling to 0-4 to begin its first season.
On Friday, McKendree began the tournament against Southwest Baptist as SBU claimed a 5-0 victory. Three McKendree duos took their matches to three sets, falling narrowly to their opponents as freshmen Megan Diercks and Brooke Junker battled to 21-23, 21-11, and 14-16. Sophomore Amber William and junior Hanna Parisio battled to scores of 13-21, 21-18, and 10-15, while freshman Kloi Karban and junior Brynne Luebbers were just short of victory at 18-21, 21-18, and 13-15.
Next, McKendree faced a tough UT Martin team, who defeated the Bearcats 5-0 and claimed each match in two sets.
McKendree found its first win against Hendrix on Saturday as senior Maddie Misner and junior Michelle Ramirez won in three sets with scores of 21-17, 19-21, and 15-13. The Bearcats won one of the five matches against Hendrix.
A solid Lindenwood program clinched the 5-0 win against McKendree as the Lions took the victories in two matches against the Bearcats.
Up next, McKendree returns to Missouri State for a four-game outing on March 3-4.
