LEXINGTON, Ky. - McKendree University men's golf finished second at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational tournament this past weekend at Kearney Hills Golf Links, firing a 586 (+10) for the two-round outing.
Rasmus Nilsson and
Ciaran Paterson led the effort for the Bearcats with fourth and ninth-place finished over the 36-hole weekend.
Phasin Vichitcharoenpaisarn competed as an individual for McKendree, finishing tied for ninth as well. McKendree is back on the links March 27-28 at the Big Blue Golf Club in Lexington, hosted by Finday.
Paterson and
Griffin St. Pierre were nearly atop the leaderboard after the first day of action on the links with even-par rounds, holding a tie for second place. Nilsson, who was the eventual top-McKendree finisher carded a three-over, 75 round on the first day, putting him tied for 24th through 18 holes.
Nilsson finished the weekend with a 3-under, 69 over the second round of play, finishing even-par for the 36-hole tournament and fourth overall. Paterson shot a 2-over, 74 in round two, collecting a top-10 finish in ninth as an individual. Vichitcharoenpaisarn also fired a 69 (-3) in the second round, moving up to a tie for ninth place as well.
St. Pierre finished the weekend with a 77 and a 149 total for a t-25th final placement.
Fabian Wennerlof fired a 153 (+9) while
Thomas Tollefsen carded a 154 (+10) in the tournament to finish tied for 70th, respectively.
The Bearcats came storming back with a tournament-best second round score of 285 but fell narrowly to the second place spot by three strokes to the Panthers of Davenport.
