JOURNEY TO THE TITLE
McKendree men's wrestling and head coach
James Kisgen earned the program's fifth GLVC championship in 2024, going 5-1 in the league overall. The Bearcats tack on the title to a sterling resume since the conference started sponsoring the sport in the 2016-17 season, which already featured league championships in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. McKendree, due to an alteration in the league's championship rules for the sport, will be crowned co-champions along with Upper Iowa and Maryville.
The Bearcats tallied wins in conference over Quincy (33-12), No.9 UIndy (24-12), No.12 Upper Iowa (25-14), Davenport (52-0), and Drury (46-0). McKendree reclaims the title in the conference after UIndy beat-out the Bearcats via tiebreakers in 2023.
NOTES
McKendree men's wrestling improved to 5-1 in conference with two dominant drubbings at the GLVC Duals in Chesterfield, blasting Davenport, 52-0, and Drury, 46-0. McKendree has held a winning record in the GLVC all seasons that the sport has been sponsored by the league (2016-17).
The Bearcats won all 20 matches between the two duals on Sunday afternoon, tallying 15 extra-point match wins with eight pin falls overall.
With the win, McKendree improves to 7-0 all-time over Drury, never allowing more than single-digit points to the Panthers. Against the Davenport Panthers, the Bearcats move to 5-0 all-time, allowing just nine points to DU while shutting them out for three consecutive matchups.
