O'FALLON, Ill. - McKendree University women's tennis hosted two matches this past weekend, sweeping Missouri Valley College 7-0 and falling to Rockhurst University 4-1. The Bearcats are now 4-8 overall on the season.
Against the Vikings, McKendree had a stellar performance, first taking all three doubles matches by scores of 6-0. Fifth-year senior Viola Cipriani and senior Camilla Fonseca represented McKendree in the No.1 match along with junior Sofija Djunisijevic and sophomore Iva Poleksic in the No.2 match and senior Maria Vitoria Salomao and junior Pien Ruempol in the No.3 match.
In singles, Fonseca defeated Renata Martinez 6-3, 6-1 while Cipriani won against Hannah Brown 6-0, 6-1. In the No.3 match, Poleksic took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Claudia Cases followed by a No.4 match win from Djunisijevic over Tristan Liebenberg 6-0, 6-1. Rounding out the singles wins on Friday was Salomao against Laura Moreno 6-2, 6-0 and Ruempol over Deborah Mhizha 6-0, 6-1.
The Bearcats faced a tough Rockhurst team on Saturday, grabbing one doubles win and one singles win on the day. Fonseca and Cipriani took the No.1 doubles match 6-4. Cipriani sealed another win on the day in the No.2 singles match against Sofia Valdespino 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
