ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University men's tennis faced Washington University in St. Louis on Monday afternoon as its last non-conference match of the season. The DIII No.12-ranked Bears slipped away with a narrow 5-4 win over the Bearcats. No.18-ranked McKendree moved to 14-3 on the season and will close out the regular season this coming weekend.
In doubles, McKendree got the win in the No.3 match as freshman Mathijs Aalpol and sophomore Luka Kalenic secured the 8-7 win over Pato Garcia Muriel and Case Fagan.
The Bearcats claimed victories in three singles matches, first at the No.1 spot as fifth-year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico defeated Jared Phillips 6-2, 6-1. In the No.4 match, sophomore Bendix Schröder bested Eric Kuo 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Rounding out the singles wins for the day was fifth-year senior Lorenzo del Biondo who took a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Scott Yamamoto.
Up next, the Bearcats are on the road at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday, April 26 at 2 pm and Maryville on Saturday, April 27 at 11 am.
