SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University men's tennis took a 4-1 victory over the No.3 West seed Rockhurst on Friday morning in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow morning for the semifinals at 9am.
McKendree recorded two wins in doubles play, including a 6-3 victory from the No.1 duo of fifth-year senior Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and sophomore Bendix Schröder. The No.2 McKendree duo of sophomore Luka Kalenic and freshman Mathijs Aalpol posted a 7-6 win of their own.
With the doubles point in hand, McKendree had to secure three singles wins to defeat the Hawks. Schmitz Frederico defeated Louis Keiner in the No.1 match 6-4, 6-4 followed by a No.2 match win from junior Seb Holden against Semyon Tsyrenov, 7-5, 7-6. Sixth-year senior Vishnu Prasad sealed the match for the Bearcats with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 win against Alex Tikhonov.
Up next, McKendree takes on the No.1 West seed Drury on May 4 at 9 am.
