CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Bearcat men's hockey team opened their weekend in the ACHA m1 Showcase at the Maryville University Hockey Center. In the first game of the weekend, they battled the Lawrence Tech (Mich.) Blue Devils on Friday, January 17th. LTU scored four goals in the final period to skate away with the 6-4 win.
For the game, McKendree was outshot by the Blue Devils 42-35 forcing Chad Purdy to make 36 stops (6th goal by LTU was an empty net goal).
The Bearcats got on the board first with Joe McCormick scoring his 13th of the season with the helper from Sawyer Lownsdale. Due to LTU tying the contest 80 seconds later, the teams went into the locker room tied at one.
McCormick netted his second of the game and 14th of the season to put the Bearcats back up by one with the assists coming from Alex Kent and Matias Alexandrov. This was McCormick's fifth goal in as many games. Freshman Trey Erramouspe gave McKendree the 3-1 lead with his third of the season as Bennett Uchacz recorded the helper. Between late in the middle frame and the opening moments of the third period, LTU scored four unanswered goals to take the 5-4 lead.
Matias Alexandrov cut the Blue Devil lead in half with his 12th of the season on the assist from McCormick. LTU added an empty net goal with 25 seconds left in the contest.
The Bearcats return to the showcase on Saturday, January 18th to battle the University of Oregon Ducks at 1:00 p.m.
